Qi – Eine Palast Phantasie, spoken: “Kie”, is the latest show in the Berlin Friedrichstadt palace using W-DMX™ by Wireless Solution Sweden AB. On the largest stage on earth, the ensemble offers dance, ballet, energy-fueled music and artistry in Haute Couture costumes in front of an elaborate stage set.
The 100 artists are supported by an experienced lighting crew supervised by Olaf Eichler, and the newest generation lighting equipment from Clay Paky, Vari*Lite, and MA Lighting – all controlled by W-DMX. 5 x Wireless Solution W-DMXTM S-1 Transmitters and 10 x W-DMX BlackBox R-512 Receivers are utilized for wireless DMX transmission. In total, the technical crew can control 3 x grandMA full-size, 1 x grandMA light, 7 x MA NSP, 2 x MA 2Port Node on PC and 5 x MA Digital Dimmer 12 x 2.3kVA. The network controls, among other fixtures, 14 x Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 300, 13 x Vari*Lite VL3000 Spot, 17 x VL3000Q Wash, 11 x VL3500Q Spot and 11 x VL1000TS/D. Says Lighting Designer Andreas Stübler, “The Wireless Solution Transmitter and Receiver made several effects on the large mobile ice rink and on the two mobile stages possible. With them we could also easily supply VL1000TS/D in the spectator area with DMX.” Stübler continued, “Particularly the new Clay Paky Alpha Spot HPE 300 made all involved technicians enthusiastic straight from the start. The performance of these fixtures in terms of light output and speed is certainly worth showing. The Vari*Lites with their saturated colours contributed very much to the mood of the show.” The Lighting Designer role was shared by Olaf Eichler and Andreas Stübler. Letzterer also realized the Lighting design for the LEDs. Birger Krause, Tom Mommert and Martin Wagner programmed and operated the grandMAs. In addition, Martin Wagner is also working as Video und LED Operator. Audiovisual Technical Diploma Engineer Heinz-Jürgen Lokys supplied the lighting equipment. W-DMX by Wireless Solution Sweden AB has become the world standard for wireless DMX, winning awards on both sides of the Atlantic. W-DMX “outshone the rest” in an independent test (Lighting & Sound International). Specified with perfect results in high-profile lighting projects everywhere, W-DMX has been used for lighting the Pyramids of Giza; New Years at Times Square in New York City; the world’s largest Ferris wheel, the Singapore Flyer; the Eurovision Song Contest; the Albuquerque Big-I Interstate Interchange; the Celine Dion World Tour, and many more.
