During the spectacular opening ceremony, W-DMX ran 4 DMX universes across the massive stadium to a stunning array of 24 Clay Paky Mythos fixtures, plus Martin fixtures and searchlights, and 12 LED lit balloons, representing each of the 12 countries participating. Lighting designer was Toni Amoros. The complete W-DMX system used 14 WhiteBox F-1 units (rated IP65) as well 10 W-DMX Micro R-512.
Francisco Yañez Valdivia from VALOOK explained, ”This was a complex situation. There was a great distance between the control point and the different locations where the fixtures were located. In addition, the distance between each of the moving head groups was also a consideration. W-DMX was the best solution. We saved time and simplified the transmission of DMX signal to the fixtures. At first we were a little bit concerned because the stadium was filled with antennas for telephony and television transmission. But the truth is that this was not a problem and the W-DMX transmission system worked perfectly.
We learned a lot from this experience and we could see on field the enormous capacity of the WhiteBox and BlackBox units. Also, Wireless Solution has a wide range of antennas, so it allowed us to use different equipment configurations changing antennas to establish a secure and stable connection system as we wanted. Definitely this is the future of DMX transmission.”
He continued, “When the LED balloons received the signal sent from the WhiteBox with an array of antennas in the Micro R-512 located in each one, being outside of the stadium, behind people and walls and away from the control point, we appreciate the power of Wireless Solution. Seeing the balloons rise above the stadium and down again changing colors without any interference was amazing!”
Thousands of fans were in awe at the lighting, musical performances and stunning display of pyrotechnics, setting the perfect scene for this world-class event.
Niclas Arvidsson, CEO of Wireless Solution added, “Working in hi-profile events in an environment full of wireless systems for Wi-Fi, mobile phones and Intercom can always be complex. W-DMX is the only product using Dual Band technology which means that all WhiteBox units running on 5GHz and the LED Balloons running on 2.4GHz could co-exist with all other wireless devices without a problem during the entire show. Valook is doing a great job in Chile together with their production partners to build the trust in Wireless DMX technology and work without DMX Cables.”
