1. Face the antennas the same way
All antennas must face the same direction – this is because of the way radio waves travel after leaving the radio. They must converge and hit the source in the same orientation than they left. You won’t see the an effect if the radios are close to each other, however, when the distance becomes greater, you will improve signal strength by adjusting their position!
2. Wibbly Wobbly Antenna
Tighten your antenna!! if you are not getting a solid signal strength, or the signal drops out, it may be that one of the antennas is not correctly fitted. Screw the antenna all the way in until it’s tight – you want the radio to make contact with the antenna connector and complete the circuit. If the problem persists, try a different antenna and a different cable – this is one of the questions we will ask you when troubleshooting your setup.
3. Have you got line-of-sight?
It is important that the antennas can see each other. even though wireless can penetrate barriers, you don’t want to have a lot of obstacles in the way of your antennas, otherwise your signal strength may drop. Don’t forget that trees, humans or anything containing water may disturb the signal.
Why not use our Uglybox unit to check if you have a good link quality?
4. Use G4S mode
We ship all of our boxes in G3 operating mode (also known as compatibility mode). This works with w-dmx™ boxes that existed in the early years of wireless dmx. If you are working in a venue with a lot of other wireless equipment, then you should use G4S mode for a more reliable transmission. This also includes dual-band transmission, in the 5 GHz frequency-band. refer to our manual to see how to change modes.
5. Air Gap? We can’t fix that!
We know how stressful your job is – however, if your lights are not getting any data, don’t forget to check the most obvious steps, like plugging your in cable to the transmitter. Here’s a little tip: we have a data indication led that lights up as soon as the transmitter receives data from a dmx controller. all the receivers indicate if data is being sent or not.
